The function of the provisional cast on is to provide live stitches that go both directions, so the answer to your question is that the stitches are both from the cast on and part of the hat! Now that you've knit the top of the hat, you're coming back to the other half of those provisional stitches and using them to knit the bottom half. Hope that answer helps! :)Gretchen Tracyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13720728303685051589noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6683194221069775925.post-56015057064273489802022-10-20T11:37:01.590-07:002022-10-20T11:37:01.590-07:00Hello:

You could go up a needle size and try if you're really determined though. In that case, I would cast on the number of stitches for adult large but follow the length directions for the toddler size. Unfortunately that might be a bit complicated, in which case you might want to wait on the pattern until you have a different yarn. The idea behind this hat is that you use a provisional cast on so that you have live stitches going in both directions -first you work the top of the hat, and then you divide the stitches at the bottom and work them in different sections to make earflaps and the edging. Where are you at in the process? I looked through the instructions again and I don't see an area that is screaming for improvement so it's hard for me to give you tips without a more specific question. :)Gretchen Tracyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13720728303685051589noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6683194221069775925.post-19759005608519837532021-10-31T18:51:33.771-07:002021-10-31T18:51:33.771-07:00Thank you so much for this pattern
